PUBLICLY FUNDED COURSES

Publicly funded courses can be accessed through apprenticeships. These are government funded schemes which allow young people to gain qualifications whilst in employment and thus earning a wage. There are no fees to pay, however some outlay can be expected in terms of purchasing a student kit, textbook and a uniform.

  • Advanced Apprenticeships in Hairdressing
  • Advanced Apprenticeships in Beauty Therapy

  • To be eligible for an apprenticeship scheme, a student must satisfy certain criteria:

  • Be aged 16-24
  • Employment: Apprentices must be in paid employment within a hairdressing / beauty therapy salon
  • Study towards an accredited qualification – a foundation or an advanced apprenticeship must be followed
  • Regular attendance at the training school (once a week for beauty students / once a fortnight for hairdressing students) for structured training

  • Courses:

    Successful completion of a foundation apprenticeship requires achievement of the relevant occupational NVQ at Level 2, plus Key Skills at Level 1 in Communication, Application of Number and ICT.

    Successful completion of an advanced apprenticeship requires achievement of the relevant occupational NVQ at Level 3, plus Key Skills at Level 2 in Communication and Application of Number and Level 1 in ICT.

    There are no minimum entry requirements for a foundation apprenticeship, although GCSE grades D-G are advantageous. Students wishing to follow an advanced apprenticeship, must have either achieved or be working towards a level 2 qualification before moving onto level 3. GCSE grades A-C are also beneficial.
